Landscaping projects can be some of the most daunting for any homeowner, but they can also be exciting and fun.

All around Bakersfield, there are plenty of examples of beautiful landscaped homes and businesses, but drawing inspiration for that project can be tricky. At Bolles Nursery, manager Susan Williams wants to make it an easy experience for professional landscapers or for homeowners who want a full-service landscaping option for themselves.

“Landscaping becomes irrigation, plant material, sod, or whatever you want,” Williams said.

Bolles Nursery roots were in gardening and landscaping services, and it’s now a place to inspire others for their landscaping projects. In the back of the property, Bolles’ features a wide range of ground cover for numerous projects, including the increasingly popular drought tolerant landscaping.

While many landscapers visit Bolles to purchase plants or get ideas, Bolles itself offers landscaping services that included planning for plant materials to irrigation projects.

“They will walk your yard with you,” Williams said of her landscaping team. “They will listen to the ideas you have for your yard and then they will come back here and write a proposal. They will submit the proposal to you and upon your approval then the work will begin.”

Located on Bakersfield’s west side, Bolles Nursery’s ample Allen Road location offers a huge selection of ready-to-plan trees, bushes, and other shrubberies to make that landscaping project shine, but Williams says it’s the focus on service that sets their business apart.

“We try to accommodate everybody,” Williams said.

Bolles’ founder Steve Bolles started off as a gardener before earning his contractor’s license to become a landscaper. That part of the business has thrived for the nursery for the last several years.

Williams said her biggest desire is to have an approachable business where customers can come in and ask questions about their landscaping needs.

“We will meet with you to try and understand your needs,” said Williams, adding that people should explore popular social media website Pinterest for inspiration.
