Search and Rescue teams save four from the Kern River

Kern County Sheriff’s search and rescue teams had a busy Wednesday when they helped rescue four people from the Kern River near Kernville.

In a news release, officials said members of the Kern Valley search and rescue team saved a kayaker after his kayak overturned about noon, stranding him on an island just downstream from Riverview Park in Kernville. At 5 p.m. on Wednesday, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office received a report that three men were stranded on an island in the middle of the river near McNally’s restaurant in Kernville.

Kern County search and rescue teams responded to the call and rescued the three men, who were unable to cross the river due to strong currents.

All were rescued safely and no injuries were reported.
