OC Register identifies man missing in Kern River

The Orange County River says a man that went missing in the Kern River near Keysville last week is a 27-year-old emerging rap star from Buena Park.

The newspaper said Michael Ramirez went missing on June 22 after jumping into the river near the Keysville Campground. Kern County Sheriff’s Department officials said last week they began an immediate search for the man, who they did not identify at the time, with air and ground searchers, including volunteers from the Kern County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue unit.

Ramirez’s girlfriend Erica Zambada, 25, told the newspaper that Ramirez thought the river was calm.

“It was 115 degrees,” Zambada told the newspaper. “We were sitting on a rock. Michael jumped in to cool down. He’s a fish – he loves to swim. He said, ‘The water is calm.’ But then an undercurrent swept him away.”

More than 70 of Ramirez’s family and friends helped in the search. Ramirez was celebrating his 27th birthday and the newspaper reported that Ramirez is an emcee for three-member Rebellion Warfare, and goes by the name Dossicc.
