Man suspected in Bakersfield murder awaiting extradition in Arizona

A man suspected in the shooting death of a man and attempted murder of a woman in May is awaiting extradition to Bakersfield after he was arrested in Mexico.

Bakersfield Police said Rigoberto Sanchez, 39, is suspected in the May 28 killing of Edward Lima, 31, and the attempted murder of a woman, who police said was Sanchez’s estranged wife. Police said Sanchez fired into Lima’s apartment in the 6900 block of Valleyview Drive, but had also burglarized the apartment on May 27.

As police began to build their case against Sanchez they learned he had fled to Mexico. On June 23, Sanchez was arrested in San Luis, Mexico on suspicion of burglaries and was taken to a jail in Yuma, Ariz. Police said that Sanchez will be brought back to Bakersfield to face murder and attempted murder charges.
