Bruce Freeman easily won the race to fill the vacant Bakersfield City Council Ward 5 race on Tuesday night by claiming 62 percent of the vote. Freeman will replace the late Jeff Tkac, who died shortly after winning election to the seat.
Freeman, who once led Castle and Cooke development in Bakersfield, stepped into the race touting his experience of helping develop Bakersfield’s west side. He was challenged by Ryan Nance and Noel Pineo. Nance ran a series of attack ads against Freeman, including questioning his residency.
Nance finished second in the race with 32 percent of the vote. Pineo was a distant third.
