Richard Beene pays tribute to the late Gene Thome

Gene Thome was a major figure in Bakersfield’s sporting landscape as the owner of Bear Mountain Sports, and also as a champion of the Bakersfield Sound.

A note singer, as well as strident defender of the Second Amendment, Thome died last month after an illness. For many in the community he was a good friend, including “The Richard Beene Show” host Richard Beene, who remembered Thome during a May 31 radio segment.
