BAKERSFIELD — Rep. Kevin McCarthy downplayed White House Senior Advisor Jared Kushner’s attempts to have secret meetings with a Russian ambassador in the days after President Trump was elected.
Kushner, who is the son-in-law of the president, has reportedly drawn the attention of law enforcement who are investigating the Trump campaign connections to the Russians.
McCarthy, however, was dismissive of the suggestion that something bad or illegal was going on.
“Is it wrong that the new administration is going to come in and have a communication with the other countries?” McCarthy asked Bailey. “That is the right thing to do.”
McCarthy made the remarks during a 28-minute interview on the May 30 episode of “The Ralph Bailey Show.”
McCarthy said there’s not enough information about Kushner’s alleged contact, and said the real focus should be moving the country forward.
“But really lets focus on getting this country moving forward, instead of just trying to rehash this election,” McCarthy said.
