Deputies investigating Lamont shooting that left one in critical condition

Kern County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a Lamont shooting that left a man in critical condition late Wednesday night.

Sheriff’s deputies said they were called to the 10900 block of Santa Ana Street in Lamont about a possible drunken fight in front of a home. When deputies arrived, they discovered two subjects had been in a verbal, and possible physical, altercation, but one had already left the area.

An hour later, at 10:21 p.m., deputies were called back to the same location for a report of person being shot. When deputies arrived they found an adult male lying on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics responded and took the victim to Kern Medical for treatment, where it was determined he had been shot several times and was in critical condition.

Due to the victim’s extent of injuries, homicide detectives responded and assumed the investigation. Detectives were able to determine the victim had possibly been involved in a physical altercation with at least one person outside of the home prior to being shot, however at this point no suspects have been identified.
