Rudy Salas loses committee chair after no vote on gas tax

Assemblyman Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) lost a legislative committee chairmanship Monday after his vote against the state’s increase in gasoline taxes and vehicle license fees.

The Sacramento Bee reported Monday Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon stripped Salas of his chairmanship of the Business and Professions Committee. Salas responded to the demotion by taking to Twitter.

The Bee reported that Rendon didn’t directly connect the change with Salas’ vote against the tax increases.

“We’ve had a lot of success and I wanted to make sure we continue to have success,” Rendon said. “Obviously, it’s my prerogative to make changes from time to time.”

Late Monday afternoon, Bee reporter was a guest on “The Ralph Bailey Show” and discussed Salas situation with host Ralph Bailey.
