Sheriff deputies bust up Wasco chop shop

Kern County Sheriff’s Deputies said they have busted up a chop shop in Wasco and arrested one man on suspicion of operating the shop.

A deputy was checking on a vacant building at 29341 Kimberlina Road near Wasco at 12:40 a.m. on Friday morning, and saw people “manipulating several disassembled vehicles inside a warehouse on the property.  Soon other deputies arrived and attempted to contact several suspects, but those people hid inside the warehouse, according to a Sheriff’s press release.

After a short time, five adult subjects exited the building and were detained. During the investigation, deputies searched the warehouse and found a partially stripped vehicle reported stolen from Wasco. Deputies also recovered a stolen 30-caliber bolt action rifle.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Salvador Raya, 27, was arrested on suspicion of operating a chop shop, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of a stolen firearm. The remaining four subjects were released at the scene.
