Discovery of body after Oildale fire leads to homicide investigation

Kern County Fire Department arson investigators and Kern County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a fire in Oildale early Saturday morning that left a person dead.

Fire officials said they were called at 1:02 a.m. to a structure fire in the 200 block of Beardsley Avenue involving a motor home and shed, but they were also told that an occupant of the buildings was trapped. While the firefighters were able to knock the fire down in 10 minutes, they were hampered by arcing power lines and had to wait to search the area until PG&E de-energized the power lines.

Once that was complete, fire fighters discovered a dead body inside of the shed.

The Kern County Coroner has not identified the remains but the incident is under investigation as a homicide.
