Reward rises in hunt for killing of 5-year-old boy

One month after a California Avenue drive-by shooting left a 5-year-old boy dead, Bakersfield Police said they have identified a witness to the shooting and are urging that person to come forward.

“Investigators from the Bakersfield Police Department have also confirmed there was an eye witness that observed the homicide, and it’s believed the witness has information that would assist in identifying the suspects,” police said via a press release. “This witness is asked to call the Bakersfield Police Department immediately.”

Police said the reward for information about the fatal shooting has risen to $20,000 thanks to a donation by the Tejon Ranch and a fundraising drive American General Media and The Ralph Bailey Show. Tejon Ranch donated $5,000 and AGM, which owns kernradio.com, raised more than $5,000. Bailey said today that Rep. Kevin McCarthy has pledge $1,000 to the effort.

There are a variety of ways in which someone can report information regarding this incident, both publicly and anonymously. The Secret Witness of Kern County phone line operates 24 hours a day and secrecy is guaranteed to those who call. Anyone with information is urged to call: (661) 322-4040
