Deputies investigating southeast Bakersfield homicide

Kern County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating an early Friday morning shooting in southeast Bakersfield that left a man dead.

Deputies were called to a report of shots fired at 2:42 a.m. in the 4200 block of Gordon Street. According to a news release, the Bakersfield Fire Department called the sheriff’s to their station at 106 White Lane where a gunshot victim had arrived with a wound to his upper body. Despite the efforts of firefighters, the man died at the fire station.

Deputies were called to a report of shots fired at 2:42 a.m. in the 4200 block of Gordon Street. According to a news release, the Bakersfield Fire Department called the sheriff’s to their station at 106 White Lane where a gunshot victim had arrived with a wound to his upper body. Despite the efforts of firefighters, the man died at the fire station.

Detectives responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. Detectives learned the victim had been at a small party at a home on Gordon Street. As the victim was standing in the front yard an unknown suspect or suspects fired several gunshots and the victim was struck. He was then transported to the fire station by an acquaintance.

Detectives were able to locate evidence of a shooting on Gordon Street. At this point in the investigation, there is no suspect information. The Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim at a later time.
