Arvin High student makes history with West Point appointment

Arvin High senior Annmarie Narvaez has become the first student from the school to earn an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, according to the Kern High School District.

Narvaez is a member of the school’s Junior ROTC program, which is run by the Army, and shines on the basketball court and classroom.

“Annmarie is a great example of a student that sets a goal and works extremely hard to achieve it. She has been a superb role model for all to follow during her tenure at Arvin High School,” John Lunsford, Arvin’s JROTC advisor, a retired First Sergeant, U.S. Army

Narvaez, who wants to pursue a career with the Federal Bureau of Investigations, said her experience in the ROTC program, where she serves as a second lieutenant, helped her earn her way into West Point.

“Without this program, I would not be the person I am today, or have the goals I have today,” Narvaez said.
