BPD releases 911 recording of shooting death of Ray Ingram

The Bakersfield Police Department released the recording of a 911 call of a woman asking for police and medical aid to come to her home, where a popular chef was found dead by police.

On Wednesday,  Bakersfield Police said they have arrested a 49-year-old woman on suspicion of the shooting death of Ray Ingram, a popular Rosedale-area restaurant chef. The woman was identified as Michaele Bowers of Bakersfield.

On the recording, the woman is heard asking the 911 dispatcher to send police but declines to provides further details before hanging up the phone.

In a media release, police said they were called at 6:11 a.m. to a home in the 5000 block of McKee Road and found the man dead inside a residence. Ingram, 51, of Bakersfield, who had taken over J’s Place restaurant in June of last year.

Police said they took Michaele Bowers into custody after questioning by detectives. It was also determined that Bowers made a call to report the incident to 911. Bowers was booked into Kern County Jail on suspicion of murder.

Ingram was also known as Chef Ray and had worked at a variety of restaurants, including at the Petroleum Club. In 2016, he took over at J’s place, which is known for it’s chicken and waffles. Ingram also had a variety of cobbler mixes for sale via a website called cobbler king.com

The details of the shooting are still unknown and the investigation is continuing.
