Arvin votes against sanctuary city status

After hearing from numerous residents urging Arvin to become a sanctuary city, the motion died when the City Council deadlocked 2-2 on a plan that would make the city the first in Kern County to become a safe have for illegal immigrants. 

Citing a conflict of interest, Councilman Jess Ortiz abstained from the vote.
