Dining best bets for the Central Coast

Dining best bets for the Central Coast

If you’re heading to the Central Coast in the coming days or weeks local food critic Kathy Marcks Hardesty has a couple of suggestions about where to find a great meal.

During an appearance on San Luis Obispo radio station KVEC, with host Dave Congalton, Marks presented a pair of dining options in Cayucos and Pismo Beach.

Cass House, Cayucos

During the interview, host Dave Congalton asked Kathy Marcks Hardesty about some of her current favorites when it comes to dining, and Caucus’ Cass House was at the top of the list for the critic.

“I’m still very enthusiastic about Cass House,” she said. “They are doing some great stuff there.”

The restaurant is part of a broader hospitality business that includes a bakery, hotel and events venue at 222 North Ocean Avenue in Cayucos.

Hardesty said the restaurant is doing great lobster sandwiches with fresh-basked bread.

Brooks Burgers, Pismo Beach

Another place that impressed food critic Kathy Marcks Hardesty was Brooks Burgers in Pismo Beach.

She said that she initially skeptical of the restaurant, because it seemed like a fast food place, but a friend told her about how Brooks Burgers raises its own cattle at a ranch near Fresno.

“Rock-solid food,” she said. “The best $5 hamburger I’ve ever had. The $5 burger is not huge but it was just right for me, and they do it on Edna’s Bakery buns and only the best restaurants use Edna’s.
