There is no text book, road map or even “How to” book on running for president of the United States but it certainly helps to have someone who’s done it before on your side and with the recent addition of seasoned veteran Paul Manafort, the trump campaign suddenly has sense of purpose and focus to a presidential bid fraught and yet built on flying by the seat of Donald Trump’s pants. The man who has taken the Republican Party by storm with a brash, unrehearsed, off the cuff approach to campaigning now promises to use speech writers, teleprompters, (something he’s never done) and has toned down the name calling and negative attacks on fellow Republicans, no longer referring to his closest rival Ted Cruz as “Lyin’ Ted” but as “Senator Cruz”. Furthermore, a detailed foreign policy address is planned either shortly before or after the California Republican Convention, April 29 in Burlingame, Ca., where all three leading Republicans, Trump, Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, are expected to speak. And the arrival of Manafort could not have come at a better time for the Campaign, Just as campaign manager Corey Lewandowski got caught up in charges of attacking a reporter, in came Manafort and despite the fact the charges were ridiculous and were later dismissed, rival Republicans and HRC were using the incident as evidence of the campaign’s unruly and unpresidential behavior. But now, with the huge win in New York, it appears, like it or not, one candidate will get to 1,237 delegates before the Republicans get to Cleveland. And if the party comes together and embraces my “Uncle Buck” theory (Please call the show for an explanation of the “Uncle Buck” theory.) we may have found the man who can stop the Democratic machine!
