The new MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. film, based on the 60’s television series, is one hell of a lot of fun.
Written and directed by Guy Richie (LOCK STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS, SHERLOCK HOLMES, SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS), the movie contains all the fun and style of an earlier film of his, SNATCH, with a wicked touch of some of the better spy thrillers, i.e. James Bond.
Henry Cavill is outstanding as Napoleon Solo, an American C.I.A. operative working off a criminal debt to the agency. And Armie Hammer is equally great as Illya Kuryakin, a Soviet/KGB super-spy with intense anger issues. The two are forced to work together against a rogue power seeking a nuclear weapon, and their chemistry together only makes one hope that there will be another installment in this franchise.
