MR. HOLMES shines

MR. HOLMES shines

MR. HOLMES is not your typical Sherlock Holmes story. Ian McKellen plays the iconic detective as he struggles with several small mysteries, and encroaching senility, in the latter stages of his life. Slow, but never boring or contrived. McKellen will get a Best Actor nod for this with a good shot at winning.

I recommend this highly for those that enjoy period pieces, wonderful actors practicing their craft, and heartbreaking mysteries.

Grade: A

A side note: this film is in very limited release, but it is in Bakersfield at the Valley Plaza Theater. Who knows for how long, so get your butts moving if you want to see this.
