CARRS, DAVID/DERRICK, DRIVEN BY GOD, FAMILY

CARRS, DAVID/DERRICK, DRIVEN BY GOD, FAMILY

First, let me thank the folks at the Sheriff’s department, namely Sgt. Avery Simpson, for inviting me to host a meet and greet for the department and local quarterbacks, David and Derrick Carr. In typical Carr fashion, the event was spurred by their desire to give back to the department and included a question and answer period with me as the moderator and then questions from law enforcement folks and their families. Light summary: Both feel “deflategate” was much ado about nothing! Both, including rookie Derrick, have been knocked off their pins in a game and don’t remember much after the hit. Derrick has no idea where the team will be playing, Oakland, LA and doesn’t care and both point to their father, Roger, as the reason for two brothers in the same family shattering the odds and making it as starters in the National Football League. Their story even trumps, no presidential reference intended, the Manning story. While Mr. Carr is a tall, gifted athlete, he was no professional with pro contacts and friends who were scouts and with professionally honed skills Archie Manning taught Peyton and Eli while they were school kids! It’s an astonishing story and they are truly an amazing family guided, and this is no surprise, by God and their faith. What a refreshing change for our times and certainly for the NFL and the Oakland Raiders.
