ZACK AND JOC; TALE OF TWO PLAYERS By RALPH BAILEY

The Major League Baseball All-Star game once reigned supreme among the mid-season silliness. The NFL conducted their honor roll game after the season when a young man’s fancy turns to spring. The NBA game remains a defenseless, run and gun scoring fiasco and even the NHL outlaws hitting and defense in their battle of the best. But MLB’s Summer Jam always seemed real, whether it was a young Reggie Jackson showing his talents emerge outside of October or a Pete Rose infamously or famously rounding third and entering Ray Fosse’s life and career … forever. But now, idiotic leadership in the commissioner’s office has turned the game into a summer classic joke with grave repercussions. Bud Selig thought it genius to allow home field advantage to be determined by Tuesday’s winner. But the ultimate travesty remains the selection process, in which a young powerful home run hitter like Joc Pederson, sporting a whopping .240 batting average, can get in the game at all, let alone as a starter. But a ray of justice shined through for Dodger Pitcher Zack Grienke, whose teammates seemingly took a  powder every time he toed the rubber and despite sporting the best ERA in baseball wins have been as rare as a good steak at KC Steakhouse. So i say, Good for you, Zack enjoy your moment in the sun. For Joc Pederson, son you didn’t deserve it but you can still earn it. Make us proud! (But I got an Andrew Jackson says the kid strikes out!)
