No Rules in Journalism

THERE ARE NO RULES IN JOURNALISM … Journalist are some of the most self righteous, judgmental cynical people on the planet. How do I know this? I used to be one and it comes with the gig. Like policeman who deal with liars, cheats and scoundrels, journalist receive a check for exposing the crooked mayor stashing away money in the Caymans or the state senator living a double life. So on one level I suppose we should give them a pass. However, the Fourth Estate constantly drops the ball when the glare of the proverbial spotlight turns on them. Initially NBC dealt with the Brian Williams mess adroitly by promoting well deserved weekend anchor Lester Holt (Despite the fact Holt continues to fight for Williams’ $10 million salary.). But their fence-splitting decision to resurrect Williams allowing him to  play for what NBC seemingly considers the JV (MSNBC). Either Williams has credibility or he does not. And after finally admitting to a serious of untruths, including seeing a body floating through the streets of New Orleans and a hairy helicopter trip that never occurred, Williams has lost any sense of dependability necessary to communicate the news on NBC, MSNBC or KBAK TV 29. Shame on NBC for confirming what I’ve always believed about this profession: there are no rules!
