Comedian Louie Anderson remembers Bakersfield for antiques, ice cream

Comedian Louie Anderson will tell you about what he loves about Bakersfield, and it also probably helps that he’s a cast member of a big TV show set here.

During a Feb. 27 appearance on “First Look with Scott Cox,” the comedian discussed his role in the show “Baskets” with Zach Galifinakis, his upcoming performance at Temblor Brewery and his appreciation for the city’s antique stores and ice cream.

“I used to go antiquing in Bakersfield all the time,” said the 63-year-old Anderson, who won an Emmy last year for his role on “Baskets.”

“Baskets” is set in Bakersfield and follows the story of the Basket family, who live in Bakersfield. Galifinakis plays roles as twin brother, including that of a failed clown who has returned to Bakersfield to become a rodeo clown.  Anderson plays the mother of the twins.

The show was created by comedian Louis C.K., Galifinakis and Jonathan Krisel.

“I used to love going to those stores,” Anderson said of downtown Bakersfield. He also remembered that Bakersfield was the home of Dewar’s ice cream.

“Whenever I went to Bakersfield, I felt it was very midwestern,” Anderson said.

The show can be seen on the FX Network and Anderson will perform March 2 at Temblor.
