During last week’s The Richard Beene Show and The Ralph Bailey Show, Rep. Kevin McCarthy appeared on both programs and said he would not be conducting Town Hall meetings.

McCarthy, the House of Representatives Majority Leader, said the Town Hall format has become nothing more than a platform for screaming matches with people who oppose his positions. Other member’s of Congress have faced angry constituents at Town Hall events around the country, and much of it has been focused on health care reform.

On the Feb. 24 episode of “The Richard Beene Show,” guest Jeanine Kraybill, a political science professor at Cal State Bakersfield, said she’s not clear why McCarthy doesn’t host them, because that’s part of his job as an elected official to engage with your constituency.

“I don’t know if someone like himself is re-elected by such a wide margin he feels like he has a mandate that his people are satisfied with him or if there is the civility issue,” said Kraybill, who regular appears on the show at 2:30 p.m. each Thursday on NEWSTALK 1180/91.1 KERN.
