McCarthy: “I’m more than willing to meet with anybody that wants to talk about health care”

During an appearance on “The Richard Beene Show,’’ Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield) reiterated his stance about meeting with constituents via a “town hall.”

“I’m more than willing to meet with anybody that wants to talk about health care,” McCarthy said. “That’s what most of my entire day is about if you look at all of the meetings I’m doing about health care but I’m not interested in having something where people are just going to yell back and forth with one another. I want something that is productive.”

It was McCarthy’s second appearance on a show on NEWSTALK 1180/98.1 KERN in two days. He appeared on “The Ralph Bailey Show” on Feb. 21 and discussed some similar issues. On Feb. 22, he faced questions from Richard Beene and The Bakersfield Californian Senior Editor Robert Price about the protests Republicans have faced at town hall meetings, Obamacare’s repeal and replacement and President Donald Trump.

Price asked McCarthy if anyone was going to lose their health care in the transition to a new plan.

“They are probably going to have something different but first of all nobody on medicare,” McCarthy said. “We are not dealing with Medicare. Nobody who gets their health care from their current jobs that’s not going to change.

“How can we provide something different? How can we give states more flexibility? How can we empower somebody differently. Then if you really want to talk about health care is Medicaid really the best system of health care?”
