Bakersfield Police identify man shot to death as local chef

The Bakersfield Police said they have arrested a 49-year-old woman on suspicion of the Feb. 22 shooting death of a popular Rosedale-area restaurant chef.

Police identified the victim as Raymond Ingram, 51, of Bakersfield, who had taken over J’s Place restaurant in June of last year. In a media release, police said they were called at 6:11 a.m. to a home in the 5000 block of McKee Road and found the man dead inside a residence.

Police said they took Michaele Bowers into custody after questioning by detectives. It was also determined that Bowers made a call to report the incident to 911. Bowers was booked into Kern County Jail on suspicion of murder.

Ingram was also known as Chef Ray and had worked at a variety of restaurants, including at the Petroleum Club. In 2016, he took over at J’s place, which is known for it’s chicken and waffles. Ingram also had a variety of cobbler mixes for sale via a website called cobbler king.com

The details of the shooting are still unknown and the investigation is continuing.
