Rams Return! But What About My Raiders? By RALPH BAILEY

Rams Return! But What About My Raiders? By RALPH BAILEY

Fond memories of my disjointed youth often fall  back on Sundays in the fall and Los Angeles Ram games with my dad and uncle at the LA Memorial Coliseum. Our seats were horrible, my uncle often joked the usher would hand us folding chairs as he checked our ticket stubs, but the camaraderie of fellow season ticket holders, the fine football the Rams played throughout the seventies, which culminated with a trip to the Super Bowl in 1980 for the team and my family and the unbelievable cast of characters I got to watch on those Sundays was well worth the climb to the rafters. Roger Staubach, Fran Tarkenton, Kenny Stabler, Ken Anderson, heck I even saw Joe “Willie” Namath and OJ Simpson in Ram and 49er uniforms, respectively. But the fact that the league has finally come to its senses keeps further logic from coming to fruition for the Oakland Raiders remain a team without a home. Why the league would not follow the NFL Committee’s recommendation, and sign off on the Carson deal pitting the Chargers and the Raiders in a facility about 30 minutes down the road from Inglewood, is anyone’s guess. Alex Spanos and most of the league don’t want to have anything to do with the Rams and their controversial owner. But with a sweetheart deal from the league and the Raiders getting bought off with a pot of gold to build in Oakland it seems the Chargers are going back to Cali and the Silver and Black will remain in East Oakland. I suppose they’re right. You really can’t have your cake and eat it, too!
