As the shock wears off from the latest senseless multiple murder by a crazy person in America, we’re all focused on the kid that pulled the trigger. But I think that his mom might be way more culpable in this case. Chris Harper-Mercer was a clearly disturbed youth. His mom had posted in chatrooms about his banging his head into walls, and other abnormal behaviors. He didn’t attend regular schools, graduating from an academy for children with emotional problems. So clearly the kid wasn’t in his right mind. That didn’t stop his mom, who says she read to her unborn son from Donald Trump’s “The Art Of The Deal”, from surrounding her mentally ill child with guns. Lots and lots of guns. There were 14 of them on hand on the day of the shooting. She posted many times online, bragging about her various weapons and stocks of ammunition. All of this would be fine if she didn’t have a 26 year old son with a rich history of mental problems living with her. But she did. So it seems to me that Laurel Harper is every bit as guilty as her son. Her ex-husband, Ian Mercer, divorced her after 11 months of marriage after experiencing just how unbalanced she was/is. Think we can keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill? No chance. Not if their half-crazy moms can keep them stocked up legally.
