The cautionary tale of online dating, or horror story

During a segment on “The Richard Beene Show,” an anonymous Bakersfield woman shared her tales of dating horror via online dating sites.

The woman, who was identified as “Tracy,” a single woman in her late 40s, told host Richard Beene and co-host Dana Martin, who helps Beene host the occasional “Love Monday” segments, about her problems with men who expect sex on a first date, and who share explicit photos of themselves.

During the course of an hour-long interview, Tracy described using sites like Match.com, eHarmony and Tinder to meet men, but in many cases, the experience has been negative.

“My first upsetting experience, this was probably a year ago, I met a gentleman online, we talked, we talked about what people want, all the normal stuff,” Tracy said. “So when we finally exchanged phone numbers, because I don’t do that right away because you can Google my phone number and find out where I live, where I work. That’s not such a safe thing. So, I try to not do that right away until I feel comfortable.

“I felt comfortable. So, I gave him my number and he sent me a full-on, close-up shot of his penis,” Tracy said.

Beene asked how she responded to that.

“So, my response was clearly you can satisfy my body but can you satisfy my heart and my mind.”

Tracy went on to describe other tales of being groped, being pressured for sex after a single date and other cautionary tales for those in the online dating world.
