DEATH: NOT OK FOR BROTHERS BUT GOOD FOR GRANNY By Ralph Bailey

DEATH: NOT OK FOR BROTHERS BUT GOOD FOR GRANNY By Ralph Bailey

Woke up this morning eager to rip into the small-minded, amoral liberals pleased with Gov. Jerry Brown for signing what I call the suicide bill. Brown, who once strongly considered the priesthood as his vocation, made California the fifth state along with Vermont, Montana, Washington and Oregon in legalizing physician-assisted suicide for the terminally ill. But recent Field Poll numbers indicate the desire to play God is NOT a partisan issue. No, no, no. While those of us on the Right continue to fight for a right for a fetus to stay alive, the state has proclaimed that killing a man like Vincent Brothers, who indiscriminately shot and killed his three children, including a six month old, his estranged wife and her mother, is cruel and unusual. But now, find the right doctor and you can have someone put down as if they were the family dog. From fast food, to home delivery to microwave ovens we are forever looking for short cuts but never did I think this would include the sanctity of life. Pain, even agony, is a part of our journey and where is it written that you can concoct a way to bypass sorrow. Without these emotions, as difficult as they may be for all involved, we don’t know joy. As a society we must begin to end our never ending search for eternal happiness. Life is meant to be a struggle. Our lives, if they truly mean anything, are designed to endure the hardships the Lord places in our lives. And as I read, God never gives us more than we can handle. And when he does, that’s when The Lord summons you home. In my world, only one “being” gets to make that decision and he/she doesn’t have an MD behind his name or an R or D, for that matter.
