High temperatures expected through Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued “Excessive Heat Warning’s” for Bakersfield and Kern County starting noon Sunday and running through June 21, but don’t expect a cool down anytime soon.

The Weather Service’s Hanford station said the ridge of high pressure could ease a bit later in the week, but forecasted temperatures for Thursday through next Saturday remain in the triple digits. The region could see temperature records fall.

As part of its excessive heat warning’s the National Weather Service provided these precautions:

Prolonged exposure to these temperatures, especially after a period of unseasonably cool weather, will increase the risk of heat related illnesses. Children, the elderly, and people with chronic ailments are the most susceptible to heat related illness. Heat exhaustion, cramps, or in extreme cases, heat stroke can result from prolonged exposure to these conditions. Area waterways are running very cold and fast, increasing the risk for hypothermia, and water rescues. Pets, crops, and livestock may also require extra care through the hot weather.
