If you loved Pismo Beach Pier, they have a deal for you

If you’re headed to Pismo Beach this week, or weekend, you may notice that something is up with the pier, and in a big way.

The city of Pismo Beach began an ambitious $8 million renovation of the historic pier, which was first put into use at its current location in 1924, and the effort will take two years to complete.

For many Kern County residents, a stroll along the pier is a right of summertime passage, but don’t worry you can take part of it with you for a price. In fact, for $15 you can own a 2-foot section of the boards that made up the pier. For $5,000 you can have up to 7,000-feet worth of planks.

The pier is expected to be closed for two years while crews renovate the unique diamond-shape structure. Pismo city officials said the total cost of the construction piece will be more than $6 million, but the complete costs will top $8 million. The pier attracts nearly one million visitors a year.
