CSUB men win ugly against Seattle, 51-48

It wasn’t pretty but Cal State Bakersfield men’s basketball team earned overcame a halftime deficit to defeat host Seattle, 51-48.

After trailing 28-22 at halftime, CSUB (19-7 overall, 10-1 Western Athletic Conference) overcame a poor shooting effort, including an abysmal night at the free throw line, and got a layup from Aly Moataz with 20 seconds left in the game to take a 50-48 lead. With 10 seconds left Justin Pride hit the first of two free throw attempts to give the Roadrunners the lead for good.

Matt Smith scored 12 points to lead the Roadrunners and Jaylin Airington added 10 points. CSUB shot 40.9 percent from the free throw line, missing 13 free throws, including nine in the second half.

The victory, which was CSUB’s eighth consecutive, earned coach Rod Barnes his 100th victory as Roadrunners’ head coach.
