Westside Parkway Mudslides

I swear I am not making this up- the weekend storms caused the Westside Parkway to be shut down for flooding. Sounded fishy at the time- whoever heard of a freeway shutting down in California over a little rain? Turns out it wasn’t the water that caused the shutdown, but the mud. See, the dirt area above the parkway got all gooey and started oozing down onto the pavement. The wizards who built it never thought it would rain enough for that to happen. Really? I’ve only lived here 40 years or so, and i’ve seen that much rain (or more) many, many times. And so it was that the town that came up with a freeway that ends in a strip mall, 2 roadways called Panama (right next to each other), and the genius that is Rosedale Highway, found a way to spend a ton of cash on a parkway, but failed to plan for rain. Wow.
