The McCarthy movie continues

Hometown product Kevin McCarthy just announced his intention to run for the House Speaker position being vacated by John Boehner next month. And he’ll win. And when he does, he will have gone from the California assembly to the third most powerful position in our government in less than 15 years. that’s not a career path, it’s a Disney movie. If I hadn’t known this guy for as long as I have, there’s no way i’d believe this story. But knowing the congressman, it all makes sense. This guy is a master at dealing with his fellow elected officials, which is why he’ll be an excellent speaker. But how long will he have the job before the tea party folks want his head on a lance the way they did Boehner’s? If anybody can move the GOP agenda, its Kmac, but I doubt that he’ll be the champion that the hard right is clamoring for. I wish him all the luck in the world, and I have great confidence in his abilities, but I think he might be trying to do the undoable. We’ll know in a year or two. Or maybe less…
