This weekend, NBC Sports will be bringing all the excitement and pageantry of cornholing to our tv sets. Yes, it’s the World Championships of Cornhole X, live from Knoxville, Tennessee, where the finest athletes from the world of cornhole will gather to compete for $10,000 in prize money, as well as valuable points in the ACO ,the American Cornhole Association rankings. In case you’ve never seen it played, cornhole is the game you play at tailgate parties or at your redneck friends’ barbecues. You basically try to throw a beanbag through a hole in a board. It’s popular in some parts of the country because you can do it pretty well despite being fat, drunk, or both. So why is it on TV? I assume that it’s either because NBC has some time to fill, or because cornhole has become bigger than I ever imagined. And who knows- it could be the next big thing. time will tell. It wasn’t that long ago that we decided to put golf on TV and pretend it was a sport, and that took off like gangbusters. And if cornhole doesn’t pan out, i’m rooting for jacks and ski-ball.
