Jeff Lemucchi delivers the morning news for Kern Radio, News Talk 1180 every weekday.For years, Lemucchi has been considered one of Bakersfield’s most trustworthy news personalities.Jeff was raised in Taft, worked after school and on weekends at his dad’s gas station and after graduating from Taft High in 1974, traveled north to attend college at FresnoState.
Many of Jeff’s high school buddies remember him as a trumpet player with plans to make it big in the studios of LA.College changed all that.During his first year away from home, Jeff took a part time job at a Fresno radio station.Despite early hours and low pay, radio was the thing that really hooked Jeff.Although he has continued his musical pursuits in various capacities over the years such as playing in valley bands, serving as music director at various churches, singing, even giving private trumpet lessons, Jeff’s career path has always seemed to take him back to broadcasting.
Jeff has served as on-air talent, operations manager, and news director at radio stations in California and Oregon.He has also served as a reporter/anchor at television stations in Oregon and California.Jeff was the morning anchor/news director at KERN-AM, then did a three-year stint as the morning anchor at KGET-AM radio in Bakersfield.In 2005, Jeff was recruited by management at KBAK/KBFX-TV where he was a reporter, then morning/noon anchor.Now Jeff is back at Kern Radio as anchor of Bakersfield’s First Morning News. Whether he’s been on the radio or on TV, Jeff’s easy-going but authoritative style of news delivery has made him one of KernCounty’s most reliable journalists.He is the recipient of several awards including the Associated Press Mark Twain award for best radio newswriting.
Jeff unofficially retired from Television in February 2009 to become executive director at Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired.His duties include overall management of the organization, fundraising, and public relations.
Jeff lives in Bakersfield with his wife Jan, his two cats, Morticia and Gomez, and his Boxer Tessa.He enjoys reading, bicycling, gardening, and cooking.
