Tired of seeing a parched riverbed running through town?
Make your voice heard by joining your fellow residents on the “Take Our River Back” campaign.
For details on this issue, and to download a petition, log onto Bakersfield.com slash river now. That’s Bakersfield.com/river. Or, you can find a petition in Friday’s Bakersfield Californian.
The petition urges the State Water Resources Board to approve the draft recommendation to find that the Kern River is not fully appropriated and to support the City of Bakersfield’s application to run unappropriated water down the historic Kern River channel.
Running water in the riverbed will not only restore our aquifer, but will also restore natural flora and fauna along the river, provide recreation for our citizens and create a more inviting, aesthetically pleasing city.
But, we need to act fast! The deadline for petitions to arrive in Sacramento is Tuesday, Feb. 9th.
To make your voice heard, simply print, sign and date the petition and drop it of at The Bakersfield Californian’s Downtown headquarters at the Corner of 17th and Eye St. by Monday, Feb. 8th at 10 am. Your signed petition will be rushed to Sacramento in time to meet a Feb. 9 deadline.
It’s time to let your voice be heard on this issue. Together, we can take our river back.
