Gov. Brown Takes Heat On Ending Agencies

JANUARY 27, 2012 -- Californian State Gov. Jerry Brown is adamant about ending long established agencies.

The prospect of extending local redevelopment agencies through April 1 may be dead. Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg said on Thursday he believes it won't happen.

Gov. Brown's proposal last year to dissolve the agencies created a firestorm of opposition from the many cities it would affect, including Bakersfield.

Brown said the move was necessary to help close the budget deficit.
