CITY, COUNTY FIGHT OVER IDEALOGY NOT DOGS AND CATS
Local lawmakers would make the Hatfields and McCoys proud with their childish battle over who houses our stray dogs and cats. I have no intention of keeping score or highlighting what you've probably already read or heard about in local news. My only desire is to reach Ansel or Jonah and beg for this stupid fight to end, in the name of Fido and Fluffy!
Perhaps it's time for a third party to step in between what amounts to a fight over how to run our City Council!!!! If you examine our current Board of Supervisors, save Mick Gleeson and Leticia Perez, it's completely comprised of former council members. It's only human nature for David Couch, Zack Scrivner and Mike Maggard to look down on their former colleagues and admonish, "Not the way we'd do it." I mean they're big time SUPERVISORS now, whose mere title implies condescension and superiority.
But, to be fair, can you blame them. This current council is not a hotbed of experience and municiapl savy. Don't get you're restaurant menu in a tizzy, all the council members are bright, dedicated people but we are dealing with a 22-year--old whose breath smells like Similac, three fairly recently elected members and a pair of veterans, Harold Hanson and Jacquie Sullivan, both of whom I adore but who are not gonna lead the city in battle against the Board. Perhaps it's time for a symbolic leader to rid himself of his dapper sear sucker suit and put on a the costume of a diplomat and play peace maker. Come on Harvey! You can do it.
In the meantime, the subculture of unkept pets wander the streets and allies of our town and our leaders do nothing. Our highways are littered with animal carion and our leaders do nothing. Our number of euthanized animals per year remains at a staggering redonkulous rate and our leaders do nothing. But the fault lies not with our council but with ourselves. It should be our responsible to say 'enough is enough' but when 25 percent of a community votes ... does anybody really give a damn?
